About a year ago I bought a new house. Unbeknownst to me, there was a storage unit facility back through the woods behind it.

After a few weeks of living there, I started to hear some commotion though the woods one day. It sounded like someone talking on a P.A system, but not being a particularly nosy type, I ignored it. Besides it wasn't that loud and after an hour or two it went away.

Then several weeks later I heard the talking again. And a few weeks after that I heard it yet again. By the third time my curiosity had gotten the better of me. I went upstairs and put on my boots and went tromping off into the woods in search of the mysterious noises.

About a quarter mile into the woods I reached the back of the storage unit facility and saw a crowd of people all standing in front of one of them. In front of the door a man had a megaphone and was auctioning off the contents of the unit. I sat and watched as they went from one unit to another (four in all) and auctioned them all off.

When the auction finished, I looked for the friendliest face I could find and went up to ask what was going on.

THAT was when I discovered what a storage unit auction was.

The friendlist face turned out to be an old man that I ended up talking to for the better part of two hours before he had to leave...but before he left, I got the date of the next auction so I could make sure I was there.

While asking around, it seemed that many of the people were buying the storage units in order to sell the items one at a time. Many of them were selling their items on eBay.

I started looking for information online and found very little on the subject of storage unit auctions. After learning through trial and error, I decided to write this book because it contains the information I wish I had when I started out.
